The Board of Directors of Lower Valley Energy (LVE) in Afton, WY seeks a strategic, innovative, and results-focused utility leader with strong interpersonal communications skills to become their next Chief Executive Officer. About Lower Valley Energy

Lower Valley Energy is a member-owned cooperative headquartered in Afton, Wyoming with an office in Jackson, Wyoming. LVE’s service territory spans across the scenic and rural areas of Western Wyoming and Eastern Idaho, including Teton, Lincoln, and Sublette counties in Wyoming along with Caribou and Bonneville counties in Idaho.  The iconic Teton Mountains and Grand Teton National Park are at the heart of LVE’s service territory.  LVE serves approximately 30,000 electric and 5,000 natural gas meters.  The cooperative maintains over 2,700 mile of electric distribution lines and 229 miles of transmission.  They also service 372 miles of natural gas lines.

Employing a staff of 76 full-time employees and 4 seasonal employees, the cooperative is financially sound, with annual revenue of $75 million and a total utility plant of $246 million.  The cooperative sources its wholesale power from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), owns and operatives two small hydroelectric facilities, and has partnered with Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS) to participate in the Horse Butte Wind Farm in Idaho.  LVE is actively developing new sources of electric generation to meet load growth and is building a new natural gas pipeline from Montpelier ID to Afton WY.  They have raised millions of dollars through a unique partnership with the Town of Jackson and Teton County to promote conservation and the development of renewable resources such as a community solar project.

Reporting to a 7-member Board of Directors, the Lower Valley Energy CEO is responsible for carrying out the strategic vision of the cooperative.  As a cooperative utility, Lower Valley Energy works for and serves its members, to safely provide the least expensive, most reliable energy with the best customer service.

Experience and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; an MBA or other advanced degree is a plus.
  • Education or Experience in Accounting & Finance, Engineering and Business is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of management experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of electric utility experience is required, preferably in the electric or natural gas industry.
  • NRECA MIP graduate is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Bonneville Power Administration and its role as the power supplier in the region is important.
  • An understanding natural gas distribution or the ability to learn it is a plus.
  • Having a strong understanding of cooperative values will set you apart!
